I was born in Salt Lake City, grew up in South Metro Denver, and graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, Colorado. I earned my undergraduate degree with honors in 1984 from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and my medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago in 1988. I completed my internship and residency in 1992 in Philadelphia at Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation's first hospital founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1751. During my residency, I had the opportunity to study Urogynecology at St. George's Hospital Medical School at the University of London.
